What is the benefit of the salt tablets/chews? Is it similar to the sodium and electrolyte benefits from Gatorade?

I ask because lately, I get a pretty bad headache after a ride. I usually just drink water so I’ve tried things like drinking more water, Gatorade instead of water, eating something small like a banana before the ride or eating it immediately after, protein shake right after, etc., but nothing has helped so far.

Cancer treatment is far more devastating than many realize. My bikes have been there and are an outstanding tool for making my way through difficult times.
It sure as the day is long had better not be transformed into a chore by micromanagement to the Nth degree.

A 32 pound bike is the weight of a bike you may see for a $1000 to $1200 adult mountain bike . These kid bikes can be at a similar weight and the adult can be 6 times heavier than the kid . Let’s multiply the weight of the bike by six and that’s like a kid riding a 150 pound bike . Now we are not going to get a bike weight comparable for a kid to adult but 20 pounds should easily be doable for a price point at $ 600 .

Some of the best downhills trails are Johnny’s G’s, Rock Man, Oly’s, Final Approach and Lena’s. Lena’s is by far the most technical trail. It is best to climb up the system either on Prickly Pear or Daily Grind. You can also climb up Red Light District. Don’t forget to connect with Red Snake at the back end of the system (south end) if you want to add some distance. You can ride Red Snake to Oasis Loop and back on Red Snake to add a out 9 miles to your ride.

However they make some products that are truly amazing performers. If you place the 5.10’s at the top of your kitty claw ratings the Specialized 2FO Roosts are a Jaguar (the most vicious big cat) with a bad attitude. Yes, they have more grip than 5.10’s. They have the comfort of bedroom slippers and at $120 are hard to beat on price. I have these and 5.10’s and if I am going to be riding something sketchy I grab the Speshys.

It has been mentioned already however, ads that pop up, scroll incessantly are needing removed at all cost… Annoying the readers and members is not going to get your target met. Sensibly done ads that aren’t pissing people off would be doable. Think about it, the form is a ghost town… So too will be the remainder of the site with adverts that trigger migraines! Just sayin’. We get the need for funding however, keep it respectable and people will continue to enjoy the site.

There is a lot of good information and content and your team is doing a great job. Keep it up! It is appreciated…

I love how Singletracks keeps the focus on the singletrack itself through your massive database of trails with useful descriptions and reviews from other riders – I haven’t found anywhere else that is as good for giving me a sense of what to expect at an unfamiliar trail. The regular Thursday feature about new trails is another example. And all the podcast episodes with local trail managers. Love it!

I’m also running them with old gen M8000 XT Calipers and RT-MT800 203mm rotors and these have gobs of power with no fading over long, steep descents here in Pemberton BC.

The only negative to these is weight. (Although I’d argue the cotter pin vs bolt is a negative) But the weight difference in claimed weight is for a set that includes the rotor “The recommended rotor for XT brakes is RT-MT800 while the recommended rotor for SLX is SM-RT70” I know you didn’t test them but what’s the difference between the rotors and why are they spec’d that way?
it not really fair to say these brakes are heavier since it’s only then rotor that’s heavier (minus the 2g stroke plug that’s useless anyway )
When you say the TRPs are 130g lighter is that the claimed weight with rotors or actual weight of caliper, hose, and master cylinder?

That said, I had whitelisted you several times but the ads constantly pop up over the text I’m reading or scroll with the text and covering it. So, the ad-blocker is back on. I have been active in writing comments, submitting ride logs, and I used to do gear reviews but that got overly complex. I love the site, but lately I can’t find a compromise to the ads vs. content and since I read the same material elsewhere I expect that eventually I will just give up.

I hate to do that because I really like this site and the work you do, I just can’t pay for another site and the two I do pay for offer more of what I need (ride logs, stats, and articles).

Again, I appreciate what you do and understand your need, I just wish there was a better way to achieve it.

This is crazy. I’d love to see you all do an article of cycling clothes that are actually affordable. It doesn’t even have to be clothes from a cycling brand. For instance you did an article over the winter on those Wrangler ATX trail joggers—that was awesome, super helpful. I actually went and bought a pair of those pants and rode them all winter. They lack some bells and whistles but they have all the features a regular rider might need. Lets have some more articles like that. PI and PNW are really the only items of apparel in this article that seem close to reasonably priced. I’m not above paying $$ for well made clothes but $190 for shorts is ridiculous.

Fortunately, I had a good friend point me in the direction of Woom bikes when my son was still on his balance bike. We’ve since had him on a Woom 3 and now the 20″ Woom 4. I highly highly recommend the brands that build bikes with kid-specific geometry like Woom, Prevelo, Cleary, Guardian, Early Rider, etc. As this article states, proper geometry (and weight!!!) are so important for a kid to really enjoy their bikes.

Comment on Riding Tall: A Mountain Bike Fit Guide for Tall Riders by sdavis8888 https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-progression/riding-tall-a-mountain-bike-fit-guide/#comment-301178 Wed, 18 May 2022 21:50:35 +0000 https://www.singletracks.com/?p=589136&preview=true&preview_id=589136#comment-301178 Downhill works well for tall riders – much like it does for tall skiers; extra weight equals more momentum for gliding across flats and small rises in the course. Plenty of tall skiers lining up at World Cup downhill events.

Mountain bikes aren’t like horses, they don’t produce power. But your analogy would make sense for an e-bike where a light rider would go faster with the same bike motor.

Going uphill is a different story, there is a reason you don’t see very many tall riders on the Tour de France. The average winner is about 5’8″ and 150 lbs. Only one rider over 6’1″ has ever won the TDF (Bradley Wiggins at 6’3″ and 152 lbs).

Mountain Bike geometry is generally more difficult for tall riders on steep climbs. High center of gravity (long legs) plus short chain-stays means you often have to get out of the saddle or you’re going over backwards. Steep seat posts are helpful, but can place your knees forward of your toes and cause pain or other knee issues when pedaling. Longer cranks help the knees, but either scrape lots of rock or you have to move the bottom bracket up; Then the center of gravity goes up (and effectively backwards on climbs) and you’re falling over backwards again. This is why longer rear centers (chainstays) are often the best compromise; within reason. Being taller (longer limbs) also allows you to move your hips further back to get manuals and unweight the front wheel.

As rim technology improves spoke setup becomes less crucial. 2 cross, with the right rim and boost spacing actually is plenty strong and slightly lighter due to shorter spikes needed.

Berms will keep your velocity rocking up the short uphills and gliding smoothly beyond the descents. Hit all of the occasional features as this well thought out trail is a casual riders dream. Perfect for a getaway, celebration or an advanced rider looking for something new. The town also offers a small town feel with all the amenities we look for. Big spring inn is ran by a family that wants to be here and there are enough corporate hotels to use your miles effectively. If you wear lycra ,enjoy an evening at the crowded house, baggies head to duggers for deep fried egg rolls and a pbr, or grab a bite as you roll out at the locals favorite Swaggy p’s. With our support this town has the potential to become another haven for us heathens that like to venture into the undiscovered.

The Iron Mountain trail system has new trails not shown on the map above. Joe’s Garage would be the newest. Total miles for all trails would be close to 30 miles. The trails cover both sides of the road, the Northside(14.7m) of the road would be along the lake and the Southside(14.5m) would be rockier with a larger creek crossing on the Yellow trail and a large Rock jump that you can go around. The locals ride Joe’s Garage(9.6m) and White(4.5m) and Blue(3m) mostly. Flow with some hills and a few lake view spots that the hikers enjoy. Trails are not difficult and are both directions.

As far as I know, no California land manager has adopted any type of true post-construction management, i.e. User Management Techniques. That is the #1 method to prevent on trail conflicts.

Comment on Light Bicycle AM930S Carbon Gravity Wheelset Looks and Feels Unique, Starting at $828 [Review] by Guerph https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/light-bicycles-am930s-wheel-set-review/#comment-301145 Mon, 16 May 2022 15:33:37 +0000 https://www.singletracks.com/?p=618206#comment-301145 Why’d you lace them 2 cross? I’ve been making wheels for a while now (15+ pair) and do 3 cross on 32 and 28 spoke ones and 2 cross on 24. I’ve never thought to do 2x for higher spoke counts but I am on the heavier side, 190-200lbs.

Also, great review! I’ve been riding similar rims for years and love them. I wonder which companies use light bicycle’s factory? They all must come from a handful of factories, tracking down which come from where would be interesting.
