has alot of potential but needs better trail signage. good climbs and decents, some nice rock areas but again needs some signs somewhere

Rode part of this trail today and was very disappointed being only 30 minutes away from home. Needs better signage at start. I just happened upon the start. Only rode for 30 minutes and left. Really rocky and rootie. Sorry guys it just didn't match up to the reviews. Maybe it gets better further around the trail. I consider myself an intermediate rider just not my trail.

This is a very well designed trail. The elevation changes as you climb up the mountain are just the right amount of up and down to give a great workout without being overly difficult. The trail is somewhat narrow so expect to be brushed by plant life on your arms and legs periodically. There are quite a lot of tree roots that cross the trail but not much rocks. The dirt is somewhat soft and there's a layer of leaves and pine needles in most places so tires with aggresive tread will be helpful. It's basically a three and a half mile loop that consists of lots of switchbacks. Because of proximity to the highway you never really get that sense of being alone in the woods because of the faint sound of traffic in the distance. Nevertheless the birds singing and the sheer beauty of this trail and it's surrounding foliage make this well worth it. This is truly an intermediate blue trail. Definitely not for beginners or casual mountain bikers but not hard at all for anyone who is a reasonably capable rider. As of this time there are no obstructions blocking the trail and it was just an all around great workout. I was very pleased with this trail and highly recommend it.

This is more a progress report than a review. We've reached this trail's maximum density: 3.5 miles. There are now three marked loops (1.1 mi, 2.4 mi and 3.5 mi), but you can make your own variations once you know the trail well enough. If you rode this trail more than two or three months ago, then you'll find significant improvements when you come back: namely, benching. This will be our focus in fact for the near future. My plan is to keep attacking the most irritating sections of the trail and turning them into the best sections. We've now done this to about half a mile of it. The trail is much more fluid already.

Pretty technical ride with quite a few climbs. I bent my rim so didn't get to finish up.

Love this trail. Most of the trail was cut by hand making it narrow and technical. Great climbs that will challenge you, with a nice downhill reward at the end of the loop. If you get too worn out the trail is mostly switch backs so you can easily make a route out if you need to.

We had a massive rainstorm on March 18 with 70 mph winds and hail. Had ten trees blow down, some huge enough to block several passes. Took us a few days to get a chainsaw crew out there to clear it all. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it is awesome to see the power of Nature.

Here's how you plan your trip: stay in Jacksonville at the Hampton Inn. Kiddos can cruise the Chief Ladiga rail trail and play at Germania Springs. Hit Henry Farm the first day, second day Coldwater Mountain, next day Coleman Lake or Mount Cheaha. Jacksonville has good restaurants and JSU night life, makes an easy home base.

This is a great little trail conveniently located behind Jacksonville Hospital. The woods are so gorgeous that it has been turned into an arboretum used by JSU ecology classes (with a few tree ID markers scattered throughout). It is on a hilly site, but it varies up and down enough that a beginner can stay mostly on the bike. It's a good cardio workout that will build endurance. This trail is "home cooking"--you get to feel more in the woods and not so much in Disneyland. Almost 4 miles total on the long loop but can take a shortcut back if it gets late. Highly recommended!

I've made some major improvements to this trail recently. I'll be marking it all over again because so many changes have been made that the markers don't make sense anymore, but it's so short you can't really get lost. It's a work in progress because it's all been built by hand, no power tools except for a blower. I've eliminated six of those gut splitting turns, and two more will go soon, but no distance has been lost. So, it's noticeably more flowing. There are still some off camber sections, which will be benched eventually. Yes, it's similar to the Trussville trail but without the really technical rocky parts. Anyway, folks, the trail is down the road from and I ride it all the time, so I have a stake in improving and maintaining it, which I will be doing. Thanks for using it!

Great trail if you want a good cardio workout. And a day to day exercise trail.

A good workout with short steep climbs. Supposedly there are 4 loops here but it's poorly marked and I could only find the longest (3 mile) loop and the shortest (.5 mile) loop. Counterclockwise flows better but the longest loop is just 3 miles so you'll probably want to do a loop in each direction. Not a destination trail but I would love to have something like it in my town for a quick workout

Checked out these trails yesterday while jogging. The inprovements made are much appreciated. Great place to squeeze in a couple of short miles if you are limited on time.

I did the red loop however the trail is not marked well and I ended up doing 5.5 miles, lots of short up and downs, good cardio trail for sure.

Great little trail. It is only 3 miles long but i always ride it clockwise and then go back counter clockwise. It requires some pretty good endurance as there are several pretty good climbs. Some areas are a little rocky and rutty but overall it is pretty challenging.
