Mountain Biking Fort Rucker

****   Add a review
#23 of 97 mountain bike trails in Alabama
#2,467 in the world

The main trail is about a 5 to 6 mile loop with a lot of interconnecting and off shoot trails to total over 11 miles. Trail is mostly XC type trail with a wide range of obstacles to negotiate to include creek crossings, narrow bridge crossings (some are up there), log crossings, steep ravines and drop offs, fast downhills, big climbs and more! The trails are marked with signs and orange blaze markings on the trees. Check out the trails page on Facebook at Fort Rucker Mountain Biking or on Yahoo Groups at RuckerCycling. There are trail maps, photos, videos, directions to trail heads and more.

Great trail, short punchy climbs, and technical sections. The Main line portion has some drops and jumps that are pretty fun.

As the other members mentioned there was a large removal of trees (50 acres) to make way for a huge solar array. The trails are slowly recovering.
In total there are about 10 miles of trails here. Compared to the rest of southern Alabama these trails are relatively hilly with a fair amount of technical features, mostly due to trail erosion.
There are some great short sections of trail to be found. Some berms, natural jumps and a short flow section I just resurrected.. Don't expect a lot but you can have fun if you look.
Its a military post and you need a cac card to enter. You can get on with a short background check, I think... Or you can get sponsored on by a military member or military civilian. If your coming on the weekend I think the Daleville gate is the only one that can do background checks.

As of 9/15 a large clear cut has eliminated a large portion of grub run into rucker's revenge. This has eliminated a large portion of what was imo the best riding there. Trail work is underway to turn this into two separate loops.

Tree removal has eliminated a significant portion of Rucker's Revenge & Grubb Run west of creek crossing. This essentially makes each an out and back instead of a connected loop. Unknown at this time when or if this part of the trail will be repaired.

The volunteers that maintain this trail are awesome. I rode the trails last night and couldn't wait to get back out this morning. The IPA and Red Bull Trails were epic! I enjoyed all the wooden features, but would recommend replacing the current decking on the long bridge over the creek with 2x6's. The current wooden fencing slats used will rot and become very dangerous eventually. Overall, I was challenged the entire trail. I loved the flow and the roots on the climbs gave me a run for my money. I will definitely ride these trails again when I come back out here for work.

I was hesitant to try this trail with the bad reviews out there. I thought this trail was a lot of fun. It has some hilly terrain which is a rarity in south Alabama. Some sections actually reminded me of western North Carolina. A good mix of flow, technical sections and drops into and out of gullies. Overall condition of the trail is good as of 1/1/2015. Someone's been doing some work out here with new trail sections and signage. It would have been difficult if not impossible to find my way around without assistance. I used the trail description and .gpx file from mtbproject.com and found my way without too much trouble.

This track is washed out in a lot of places. Some of the placels you can actually get speed are runners favorite trails. The three runners I encountered were bery agitated I was on the trail. Most trails are just roots. I did not enjoy biking these trails.

This is the trail I cut my teeth on when I started Mountain biking a year ago and I currently have around 600 miles logged on it. The trail truly is a proverbial rats nest, crisscross, trail system. All of the bridges, ladder crossings and have been repaired and are in great condition (trail elves at work?). That said the overall condition of the trail is fair to poor. It is in dire need of flow, flow, flow, with bypasses at the technical parts for the less experienced rider (don't bring newbies here they will hate mountain biking after their ride). The Troy State campus of Dothan offers a better experience for new riders. This trail has SO much potential if the military will allow good group trail builders to come in and reroute, close off, update, repair, expand and maintain but the wickets of authorization on a military installation are difficult to negotiate. Everyone I have ever bumped into on the trail has been friendly and courteous, from runner to hiker to families just nature walking. I recommend wearing bright colors, as there are portions of the trail that are hunting areas. I ride these trails weekly with a loose group, 'paged' on Facebook as Fort Rucker and Wiregrass MTB club. Look them up and come ride, it's easier than trying to figure the trails out on your own. So I rate it as 3 only because of the above mentioned comment this place could be a 5 .

Heading to Rucker next week bringing bike! See how you Alabama folks ride the trail? Looking for riders to ride with. Specialized Hard rock pro comp. will right a review after I ride.

This trail will take a few weeks time to actually find all the different branches. Nearly all of the stunts are removed or rotten and a lot of the branch trails haven't been ridden in a while except for me. Also, the heavy rains earlier this year washed away some of the crossings making the funnest trail a chore to cross the mucky parts.
The trail itself has some technical bits and lots of tight, root covered sections. It is certainly the best trail in the southeast (or for 100 mile radius) but that isn't saying much at all. The other downside is it is on base and none of the millitary you will enounter know how to greet anyone or smile or even know when to get out of the way when on a mtn. bike specific trail with someone barreling down a trail going 20mph plus on a trail that is far from well kept and visibility at 10ft. Get a clue Ft Rucker you aren't entitled to jack.

I am here for a couple of weeks so I thought I would check it out.

The Trail is easy to locate. But it is difficult to navigate. It's hard to find your way around it. It needs more work but should be a great trail with a few changes.

A lot of attention went into designing this trail. Yes there's several miles of trail but it's somewhat confusing as to which trail you should take. It doesn't have an easy directional flow. I do like the somewhat technical areas.

Great trails... Probably the best in Southern Al. Always maintained, and improved...

New section about to be open that is very challenging and is for the advanced rider. This trail network has something for all skill levels so I ranked it in the middle with the "More Difficult" rating.
