Mountain Biking ATC Trail

***   Add a review
#44 of 97 mountain bike trails in Alabama
#4,718 in the world

The trail is short but there are plenty of obstacles and side events throughout the trail that make it lots of fun(huge berms, bridges, jumps, steps, rooted sections, even an old wrecked airplane). The trail consist mostly of tight twisty singletrack but there are some more open fire road and doubletrack areas where speed demons can put the hammer down and pick up some speed. The trail is only open to members of the Coastie Mountain Bike Club but membership is free and there is no obligation. so if you want to ride a well groomed, exclusive trail in the mobile area, call the above number.

A good well kept trail lots of speed and flow the only down fall is it's short by the time I got going it was over. Half the trail is Singletrack the rest is a shared hiking/jogging trail. The whole trail is on a coast guard base so you will need a military ID or need to call ahead and ask if you can be let on as a visitor or if a pass can be obtained.

I took one for the team here guys. But seriously, I can't it stand when people ride somewhere and give so little information. So, here it is.

This trail is on the USCG installation, so that is why you need a DoD Card or an escort. After entry through the gate, make the first right onto Greathouse Dr. and look for the credit union on the left and park down there. Behind the credit union, you'll see a pond and to the right of it is a trail lined with bushes. Take this trail down to the trailhead.

The trail is a Jogging/Hiking/Mountain Bike type. Half is on what is hard packed sandy clay roads and the other are trails that wind tightly through the woods. This trail is mostly flat and has some rooty areas that are a little fun. You'll start on the multi-trail part for a bit and you'll see little exercise stations along the trail. Not too long and you cut off the larger road/trail and into the woods on the windy trail. In all honest respect, the trails aren't all that bad and have potential. There was a little overgrowth in some places and a downed tree. This is a clean network and would take little effort for a group to walk through and clear some things out. I got caught in a thunderstorm that "was" a 50% chance, but it was my only chance to ride this trail and I made the best of it.

So overall, a nice clean maintained trail. Just under 3 miles and again has potential. Just been some time since the more dense areas got some love, but in this part of the US, stuff will grow and fast. I enjoyed it, but I would not make a trip for it and would ride little of it if I lived in the area. The only reason is because it's short and doesn't offer me what I look for in a typical ride. It would be good for beginners or short rides.

Easy trail. Some photos up now, it was in a thunderstorm so please excuse the raindrops. ;-)

Unless this trail gets work, don't waste your time. Not even worth reviewing.
