Mountain Biking 3 Sisters / Alderfer

****   Add a review
#84 of 1,345 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#592 in the world

First off, there are two parking areas for this trail. I would suggest parking at the first one
you see if it's not full. This makes your ride an up and down rather than a down then up.
This trail is actually a 'dumbell' shaped trail rather than a loop but the main loop is best
ridden in a clockwise direction. The upper loop (Summit trail) is best ridden clockwise as
well. Despite what the FalconGuide says about this trail, the summit is at almost 8500 ft (not
8100 ft) so there's about 1000 feet of climbing. The trail is mostly easy to ride although the
trail does get pretty rocky in spots. Overall the trail is extremely worn due to its popularity.
Grab a map at the trailhead so you don't get lost, particularly on the 3 Sisters side of the
trail.

Fun trails. Little bit of everything and a great workout. Recommend the hourglass from the East lot. Hit the north side (CW: Ponderosa, Silver Fox, Homestead, Bearberry, Sisters), then the South (CCW: Ranch View, Evergreen Mtn).

Very popular hiking trails all week not matter the day. Very mixed terrain but there is some good single track in occasionally.

The best place to ride in Evergreen. Great scenery and a nice variety of loops to ride. Gets pretty crowded on weekends and off leash dogs are a nuisance.

Front range=high traffic. Expect lots of foot and bike traffic even on weekdays from march to october.

This is a pretty fun trail, true there is a little bit of climbing involved but not like some of the other trails on the front range. Once at the top the overlook is stunning. The downhill back is a fast and fun filled time. There are a few technical spots here and there but I felt like the worst was on the north side of the hwy.

Great uphills, nice workout, and technical downhill. Great views of evergreen, and lots of bountiful shade. Be sure to ride Bearburry and Silver Fox.

This trail is pretty tame relative to the average Front Range trail. It never really gets as steep as you might expect for a ride in this area. Buffed out on most sections and pretty wide but there are a few exciting rocky bits. That being said, this trail can been ridden FAST.

Great downhill. Bit congested with hikers and riders. Clockwise.

Went clockwise. Next time will go counter. Difficult at times- the downhill is worth it. Go early- hikers and runners

This review is the most spot on! Agree with avoiding Mtn Muhly and riding the Evergreen West to East section counterclockwise. The summit climb was great!

Great Place to ride, lots of trails to ride. I missed a turn and missed the top loop and still got 9 miles in today.

Would be a 5 if there were more miles of trails. The trails on the south side are much better ridden in a counterclockwise direction. Anybody who says otherwise is wrong. Its a faster downhill with more jumps and less switchbacks. It's also a longer downhill. Most of the north side can be ridden in either direction and be tons of fun. Some short techy spots to challenge anybody but not enough to get beginners frustrated.

Three Sisters is one of my all-time favorite places to hike or ride. It is scenic and has good ambiance. The trail system is well-maintained and well travelled. There are some technical sections as well as some accessible kid-friendly loops. There are a lot of cool rock formations along the way and if you're so inclined you can stop and scramble around or even ride your bike to the summit of Evergreen Mountain. Fantastic area!

Rode the north side of the system yesterday. It has a great steady climb to the summit followed by a great decent. The only negative part of the trail is the water bars by the switchbacks, they ruin the flow of the trail.

Still riding full summer conditions on Dec 5; around 60F in shorts and a jersey!
My first ride here today and thought it was worthy of all the great reviews I've read.
I did a loop on each side of the road, and actually preferred the "Summit Loop" side. I rode CW and the climb was super mellow; at times the climb seemed to have more down than up. Then the descent was spectacular! I was riding downhill faster than I'm used to on my regular rides like Mt Falcon and Deer Cr, and loving it.
Then the other side of the road was a bit confusing for a first-timer. I asked another rider for a recommendation, and either I heard him wrong, or it just wasn't a very good loop. The most enjoyable segment of my loop was going down Bearberry; nice, open, and fast. I thought that some of the switchback/waterbars on Ponderosa and Sisters trail were poorly designed, and I've seen better in other Front Range Parks.
Generally, the trail surface was above average.
You could spend a half-day here to ride a few different combinations.

My wife and i did this today and I would rate this trail as moderate on the tech and easy on effort...had trouble on the switchbacks with water bars and a couple other rock sections but loved it! Started ccw on the ponderosa from east lot and thought that was the hardest section of the park! I agree with others that doing this ride ccw from the east lot is the way to maximize downhill flyin'

This trail is fun, but I'd rather ride somewhere else. Good singletrack and a few technical sections. Take a snack and hang out on top where the views are pretty great.
