Many of the newer trails and best riding in the Sedona area are in the Boynton Pass area. The route described with the accompanying TOPO map includes all or part of Chuckwagon, Mescal, Deadman's, Aerie, Cockscomb, Dawa, AZ Cypress, and Girdner Trails.

Let’s say advanced intermediate. Mescal is a wonderful trail with good flow that accesses the Deadman’s canyon and Boynton Canyon trails, from Chuckwagon and the Long canyon rd area. The exposures are modest and if they scare anyone they can be walked. I would like to session back and forth on this one a bunch of times. Loved it!!!

| ThankProbably my favorite trail I did in Sedona, because Hiline was too much for me. Just an awesome area, great views, great weather. Mescal is part of other really good trails in Upper Dry Creek, with really good flow, some tech, and some exposure to keep your attention.

| ThankI was in the area and rented a bike from the great people at Over The Edge. They put a nice loop together for me here that started off at the Dry Creek trail head and going from Chuckwagon to Mescal to Aerie and then on around counter clockwise. I rode the nearly 5 miles to the trail head from OTE. Next time maybe I would get a car rack to quickly get to some other trails.
The loop was great with a variety of topography. I had technical uphill and downhill sections with some exposure on Mescal, then Aerie flowed like a busted fire hydrant...it was awesome with some rollers. Then a nice downhill section on Cockscomb maybe that wound back around so I could do it twice after I reconnected with Aerie.
Great trails, I would do this again in a heartbeat if I were to ever get anywhere near Sedona. Next time I would stay the night there and ride for two days instead of driving in and back out from Scottsdale in one day.
Lunch was a nice juicy burger and pale ale at the microbrewery.

| ThankJaw-dropping scenery around every corner, all traversed and crossed by maximum intermediate fun trails. This route allows those not looking for double diamond routes to still experience the best of what Sedona has to offer. The bench on Mescal is prime, classic Sedona slickrock/singletrack riding.
| ThankOver these 13 miles of singletrack, there are some very fun, flowy sections, some great red rock views, and some less fun loose rock sections. The "4" rating averages some 5-star sections with some 3-star sections. All-in-all a great ride with lots of varying trail conditions.
