Mountain Biking Joe's Ridge

*****   Add a review
#105 of 1,345 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#702 in the world

Smooth and often challenging singletrack that climbs up to the ridge and the skirts along the top of the ridge with some cool views and steep descents. A thrilling ride anytime, but icing on the cake when ridden in conjunction with Prime Cut and/or The Kessel Run.

Getting there
Take 17.5 from town to N 3/10 road and hang a right. Turn left on 18 road and go until the pavement runs out, then stay on the dirt road for 4.3 miles and the trailhead is on the left. If you just want to ride Joe's Ridge, keep going past the first trailhead for about 2 more miles to the upper trailhead and you can ride Joe's Ridge down to the first trailhead, then either take the road back or ride Prime Cut back up. Suggested route: Ride Prime Cut up to the top and the Joe's Ridge back to the first trailhead.

Super fun! A couple of challenging sections for those who are afraid of heights. Love it.

If you have advanced skills it is best to combine Joe's Ridge with Mojoe for the best ride at 18 Road.

Great Trail. The ridgeline riding is awesome for newer riders that have never done anything like this. Check out the video here.

My favorite of all the trails at 18 road. If you start at the main parking lot then you'll have a 15-20 minute easy climb on the main road. At the trailhead you'll continue to climb a little before you get into the super fun rolling part. After you cross the service road you enter a dirt park with lots of jumps and banked turns. Easy to avoid if you're a beginner. Definitely check this one out!

Probably the most dynamic trail i've ever ridden. Quick lung buster incline gets you to the top of the ridge, then boom, you see it. Rip through the ridgeline and take a 60 ft drop on hardpack. Come out smiling and cross the road to Mo Joe and take a series of berms and jumps back to the TH. Awesome run!

Scenic. Flowy. Challening. Fast. A must do at 18 Rd...and in perfect shape this spring season!

A playful ridge ride that compliments the whole 18 road system. Makes you feel like you rode something more advanced than it is.

This trail is awesome, and very ridable if you're not an expert. It will make you pay attention, however. Great views.

go up prime cut to joes for a moderate climb and enjoy the fast downhill to kessel. beware as on last week it had lots of wash board on the ridge sections.

This is a great downhill. Not as advanced as Zippedy, but more jumps, faster berms and well maintained. I took Prime Cut up and Joes' ridge down then Kessle Run the rest of the way.

I rode this in conjunction with Prime Cut, Kessel Run, parts of the Edge Loop and Zippety and I have to say this was my favorite part of the whole ride. Challenging and satisfying climb followed by a fast, fun and thrilling downhill. Fairly short but definitely sweet.

Not exactly the wildest ride out here in Fruita, and definitely not one for scenery. I was a bit disappointed, the trails were heavily rutted (May 09) and beat me up. Some of the signs were broken and the trail was difficult to follow at times.

Funfreakintastic! Not a long trail but guaranteed to keep you smilin'. Smooth and fast with great views. Ride it a few times in a row for that rollercoaster ride sensation.

Fantastic 'wake you up and get your day started' type of run - short but very sweet.

I agree with skibum, Zippety is the most fun you can have with your pants on and the last few miles of Kessell's run are bermed ST to die for. But, Joe's is also a blast and shouldn't be skipped. Just make another loop up prime cut and try this one on for size.

This is a great trail, but it does suffer from geography as it's one of three parallel runs from the top of the book cliffs area. To the west is Zippity Doo Dah, which is twice as steep, twice as long, twice as exposed, and twice the adrenaline rush. To the east is Kessel run, which has the best flowy singletrack on the planet. Joe's may provide comfortable middle ground for some, but I usually prefer to make runs down the other two.* Review edited 10/7/2007* Review edited 10/9/2012
