Mountain Biking Storm King

****   Add a review
#42 of 300 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#2,100 in the world

A fun trail by itself however is mainly used as access too or in conjunction with others as loop routes etc. Running N-S across the face of the Mtn slope there is not a lot of climbing over its length but it does have some elevation gain from S to N as it climbs to the Helicopter Pad. From Conklin rd it’s a 4 mile, very gradual climb through the forest up to the intersection with Funner and then highway 46 a half mile later.
Across the highway it intersects with the top of C.O.D. and the Grand Slam 2 miles farther, all this way being a challenging route through the forest and scattered lava rock gardens. Two more miles and some climbing bring you to the Heli Pad and several choices back down or farther up the mountain if you choose.

Getting there
South end; head West from Bend on highway 46 to a left turn onto Conklin rd. a couple miles down watch for parking on the left side and the trailhead on the right. No real signage but this is a popular starting point so its fairly obvious.
Can also be access where it crosses highway 46 aprox 3 miles past Conklin rd although parking here is limited.
Trail terminates at an intersection with Phil’s trail near Whoops and Ben’s trails at whats known as the Helicopter Pad.

Rode this trail as an extension of Upper Whoops. The first half will turn anyone into a DH racer, while there are more technical rocky sections onthe lower end.

I rode this as part of my uphill return to Wanoga Snow Park. It was an easy climb with a shallow grade. A punchy bit here and there, but nothing sustained. It was a nice way to get back up the hill. Would have been a blast going in the other direction.

I don't remember too many specifics but I recall being very impressed when I got to the bottom of this trail. Flowy, fast, & whoop! come to mind when I think of riding this trail.

Great Bend-style singletrack trail, with relatively little climbing and a little bit of descending.

For the most part, very buff, fast trail (dusty at times) with little tech, but a blast to ride!

great trail! fun single track, that connects with more single track. Its all connected by Phils Trail single track.... this is is a fun ride with some technical descents and sweeping burms.
