Horse Butte trail to Arnold Ice cave split in good shape, continuing on horse to horse deep sand out near skeleton cave, route thin hard to find
| ThankBest ridden in cooler months after the area has received some moisture. Starting at Horse Butte, one can ride for 13 miles to Swamp Wells and find longer returns via the Coyote Loop trail or Swamp Wells trail. A shorter 10 mile loop can be made by taking Tr. 63.1 near Boyd Cave to connect to the Coyote Loop trail and returning back to the TH. The area near Horse Butte is open country due to a fire in 1996 and is basically a XC ride. If you continue to Swamp Wells there is a continual elevation gain and trees dominate the landscape. No need to ride as an OAB as there are plenty of dirt roads along the way allowing multiple loop opportunities with either of the aforementioned Coyote Loop and Swamp Wells trails.
