Mountain Biking Nockamixon State Park

*****   Add a review
#15 of 294 mountain bike trails in Pennsylvania
#606 in the world

The northern two loops (relative to parking lot) are pretty easy, though the northernmost one gets very muddy. Southern loops are more technical, with some nice rock gardens down at the south end. Both sides have lots of shallow stream crossings, facilitated by rocks.

From the parking lot, turn right at the first fork to ride the northern loops, and left at the first fork to ride the southern end. I like keeping right at subsequent forks to do the whole set counterclockwise.

I brought my 2 daughters, age 10 and 11, here for their first real trail. It was AMAZING. So perfect for their first time. They definitely had to get off and walk over several spots and they were challenged and a little scared but by the end were flying over things that scared them in the beginning. Highly recommend. We did the Hammer trail, part of Cold Spot and Haycock Run. We will be back!

I started riding here soon after I got my first real mountain bike. I'm by no means an expert but I find these trails to be a lot of fun and a decent challenge in places for the weekend warrior like myself.

The trails are windy, fast in places, typical PA rocks and roots, and they've built some very nice flow trails that keep it interesting. I generally prefer a more natural trail style but there is just enough variety to keep me happy here.

There are a few steeper punchy climbs but not much elevation change otherwise. They've done a great job of maintaining and building there. The foliage and terrain ride like a mini tour of typical SE PA woods. It goes from normal leafy trees to pine. Through small meadows and through tunnel like bushes and undergrowth. The flow is good and you can chain different trails together for a different ride or peel out at almost any point for a shorter run.

Pros: great for beginners and more advanced riders. Challenge comes from your speed and line choices.
Easy to get to. It's just off of PA 611 heading down towards Doylestown or up to Easton.
Well maintained with new features added every season.

Cons: not a lot of technical challenge or climbs for those who want that.
Can be crowded at the trailhead parking lot at peak season and time of the day.
Sections do not drain well and remain muddy days after the rain.

Overall I enjoy these trails and I'd recommend them to beginners and more advanced riders. Those looking for technical climbs and features would be best served at nearby High Rocks/Ralph Stover park.

Flowy, lots of berms, great place to carry speed and have a blast chasing friends. Not many technical features, and the ones that are here are all avoidable. If you want to maintain a steady hard pace this is a great place to do it. Super fun!

A super fun trail system that is fun for beginners and experts once you find the flow of the trails. I never get bored here and I come 1-2 times a week through the summer. The trail crew has been doing a FANTASTIC job and this place is getting better and better all the time. Some of the best berm trails in PA. I ride everything counterclockwise except Haycock run. Avoid riding haycock counterclockwise if you can as it can create dangerous situations with people coming down. Well maintained trails. Thank you to the volunteers that make these trails happen!

My favorite place to ride. It can be easy, or if you go a little faster, it can definitely give you a challenge. Many obstacles are optional with easy ways to avoid them. Scenery is great, it's well maintained, but after rain it may take an extra day to totally dry compared to other places. Having said that, even when it's muddy, it's still ride-able. Flat rocks are laid out in spots that collect water etc.. to ensure that and do the trail doesn't wash away. Definitely check this place out especially if you have children or beginners riding with you.

There are many miles of fun, flowy trails here with berms, rollers, and small jumps scattered throughout. Trails are well built with many things mountain bikers like. Easy enough for beginners, but still allows advanced riders to have a good time too. There isn't much elevation gain here which means some trails have severe drainage issues. I rode a solid 48 hours after a rain and a third of the park's trails were still super soft and muddy. Best if ridden at least a week after rain or if the ground is frozen as the place doesn't drain as well as other local parks.

Great trail for beginners to advanced. There are some wood features that are really fun to ride but are completely optional. You can have fun no matter your ability.

awesome trail. not overly challenging. no steep long climbs but really fun turns. theres also a some features like skinnies and log overs. very flowy. theres a short fast rocky section that might be a bit more challenging for some but nothing you would need to walk. also theres a cute "gnome home" thing.

NOX is a well maintained and fun but not overly challenging trail. There is lots of flow. There aren't any long, steep climbs. Some sections on the south end could be considered intermediate with lots of jagged rocks. Overall, NOX is a great time.

It's a nice beginner trail. Not much climbing or tech and only 9 miles. It gets way too crowded if you are there after 9 on a weekend so I usually start by 7. The trail system is way over-managed. The builders have done a great job but now they keep taking out any roots/rocks that may seem the slightest bit challenging. It's only open about 6 months a year so that is pretty lame.
I can't for the life of me understand how it is rated so high. I guess it's just a bunch of beginners voting.

the park info site is not in sync with the actual reality of the trail sign on 5-16-2017 at 0815 i checked the park alerts and the park site indeed said trails were open and when getting there they were actually closed now that was a round trip of 2 hours wasted and ruined the timing of my day for additional riding somewhere else ...i will never ever go back to nox as i had another terrible experience there about a year or two ago that i do not want to mention on this site for fear of someone throwing up all over their computer so if lack of accurate info is ok with you and you want to drive a few hours to ride and find out the trails are indeed closed knock yourself out AS FOR ME NEVER NOX AGAIN NNA NNA NNA NNA

Great variety of trails and environments. A few areas have a lot of jagged rocks so be sure to bring an extra tube just in case.

I'm an advanced rider 25 yrs mt biking and would call nox begginer to intermediate. Don't get me wrong I have fun every time I go it's a blast with fun and flowy trails but technical it is not. Deffinantly worth going for a fun fast ride with flow. You will need to do at least to laps to get any real workout. If you looking for technical ridding try penny pack or wisahicon park.

Nox is perfect to learn to ride at my wife loves it and so does my dog. It may be a little fast for your dog I would say you average 9.5 to 10 mph on this track. Vs 6 to 7 mph at pennypack and Wisahicon.

Deffinatly a fun spot you will smile from ear to ear just don't expect it to be a ball buster technical session

Visited Nockamixon today for the first time. Super nice trail system and very well maintained. Hats of to the trail builders! Smooth, fast and flowy with a handful of obstacles and some nice bermed areas. Trail difficulty is beginner/intermediate (leaning beginner). That said, just add speed and work on your cornering and linking turns. Can't wait to go back!

Nox is amazing. Fast, flowy, open singletrack for miles! This system was built by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. Stunning views of the lake, rollers and features galore, and regular maintenance every weekend. Some of the best trails in eastern PA!
