Mountain Biking Bear Brook

*****   Add a review
#2 of 114 mountain bike trails in New Hampshire
#225 in the world

40 miles of trails, 10,000 acres! best place to ride in New Hampshire hands down.Doubletrack, singletrack, scary descents, long climbs, great views! Something for everyone. You need to explore a bit due to the size and remoteness of the place. You can ride all day on a Saturday and not see a single person!

Rider questions

Q: Are there fat biking trails there and are they ridable?
A: SNH-NEMBA recently got a SnowDog for machine grooming and it is amazing!

Q: Where do you park?
A: There are a few options, in order of my preference. 1) At the main tollbooth on Deerfield Road by the swimming hole. (From there you head up One Mile into the network) 2) At the Hiker/Biker lot at the north side of Podunk Road, just off of Deerfield Road, which is a bit more biker centric and popular. 3) Hayes Field, this is further into the park on Podunk Rd and not always open. This is central to a lot of the park but often full of horse trailers. 4) At the very south side of Podunk Rd, from the Candia side is another small lot. This means your ride ends with a long climb, but it makes access to the more remote trails easier and can be lots of fun!

    Great variety of terrain ranging from smooth flow single track through pine forest (Hemlock trails) to somewhat tough technical rocky stuff (Chipmunk) to super flow, bermed descent (Big Bear) It's easy to put together a nice loop. There's a little climbing but none of it it too steep, too long or too technical. $4.00 entry fee, outhouse and map are in the bike parking lot. Super fun. Don't miss this one.

    Fantastic trail system. I only rode it during the Bear Brook MTB race, but that course was enough to hook me. Nice low intermediate trails, some double track, then some technical flat riding between trees and rocks, then some prehistoric rocks that were super technical and super fun. Wish I could have taken oicks during my race! Then, at the end, a super fast set of switchbacks (that I crashed on 1/2 mile from finish!). Something for everyone. I didn't notice any real good signs, but an awesome park and worth the drive! - update - I was there again, this time without the race. The trails were really that good!

    We biked the green circle loop trail at Bear Brook in October 2017. This park has a network of trails, but we chose to do the loop trail since it was fairly popular, and also seemed easy. The trails are well maintained, but it can be hard to determine which way to go at intersections. There isn't a colored marker to follow, so make sure you have some sort of directions on your phone. Overall the course was fun and not too challenging. There were parts where we definitely had to walk our bikes, either because it was too steep uphill or downhill. Any beginner/intermediate biker will have a blast on this trail! The beginning section has some fun but scary single track runs with a steep dropoff on one side. It also ends with some good downhill switchbacks that are a great way to end your ride.

    Amazing beautiful park. Great place to ride with lots of different single track trails. Only downside is the trail signs have no indication of what level of difficulty that trail is, so make sure you have a map with that info before you go. Other than that it's my favorite place I've ever biked!

    If you are from out of town. This is the trail to go check out. Bear Brook is a beast but make sure you have a map of the trail since it took me a while to navigate. Its marked but not very well marked.

    Returned to bear brook after 2 year hiatus.... Best network in NH! Miles of trails, lots of elevation, technical challenges, single track, dbl track, remote, great scenery, camping, swimming...everything you need. Definitely need a few days to experience it all. Bear brook trail to hemlock trail is my favorite

    Loved the park, it's huge.

    Hands down, the best trails are the Hemlock and the Big Bear.

    The Hemlock is very technical and there's a long stretch where there is a huge drop, so fall off your bike and you can end up in the hospital since you can pick up a lot of speed here.

    The Big Bear trail is an awesome downhill trail. Gotta go up Pudunk Rd. and then make a right onto Little Bear and then a right on Big Bear. Best downhill in the park, hands down.

    The Catamount trail is insane. The best way to go up the hill is to take the Catamount shortcut, but you will have to hike with the bike then reach the top with the huge boulders and you get a beautiful view of the Manchester/Hooksett/Allenstown area. Coming downhill is insane too, gotta lower the seat and use the back brake a lot!

    Little Bear Climb to Big Big Bear decent is the best 10 minutes in biking. Hemlock 1 is a thrill ride on the side of a hill. There is so much more to hit here but, these are my favorites. If you have the strength and stamina you can ride here all day.

    I just moved to Concord, NH from St. Louis and I absolutely love this place. Bear Brook has some real smooth and flowy single track. I only clicked intermediate bc there are a few technical areas, but for the most part it's grip and rip. The scenery is breath taking and the trails are jn excellent condition.

    Rode today. Did 15 miles and didn't even come close to seeing half of the place. The best riding I've ever seen. (Haven't been riding out West yet). Strongly recommend bringing a map and trying the Little Bear and Big Bear trails.
    If I lived within 30 minutes of this place I would be hesitant to ride anywhere else.

    This place has always been fantastic, but still continues to improve! Bear Brook is a huge park, so with the exception of the trails around the parking lot on Podunk Rd, you can spend the whole day on a busy weekend and only see a few riders. There are tons of trails, great views, and there's something for everyone. There are a lot of good reasons why this is the most popular place to ride in NH! Make it a point to check this place out!

    Excellent trails! Got a little lost at the end even with a map but if you go... Cascades 100% worth it. (Start from Carr) watch out for horse mounds!

    Didn't ride much of the park today as there seemed to be logging going on, leaving the main trail with debris and ruts in it just before the bridge heading toward Bear Brook trail, which, is always a splendid ride (even for these legs that need some time readjusting to riding trails again) trails were dry, and the most bugs I encountered were in the parking lot by the toll booth. I know the logging is to help the park, but, for now, it's mildly sad to see happening. Get well soon Bear Brook :-)

    Always one of my favorite networks of trails, Bear Brook has something for everyone and every style of rider, my personal fav, would be the little bear trail along the brook, a quick hill and narrow pass then tight single track through the trees.

    Lots of Trails (50ish miles or so);
    Lots of Variety (fast flowy, single or double track, techy, twisty, cruisers, rocks, roots, drops);
    Lots of Elevation (3 small Mtns),
    Lots of Scenery.

    Endless Loops/Rides to please any appetite.

    Some Suggetions:
    Upper/Lower Bear Brook to Hemlock for some fast flowy techy single track.

    Hedgehog & Bear Hill for some elevated technical singletrack.

    Cascade & Catamount for some demanding Ascents/Descents.

    The riding here is endless and epic. A short loop is a minimum of 1.5 hrs, so bring lots of water and some snacks. Every ride you discover new single tracks and views. NH riding does not get better than this!
