Mountain Biking Lakeshore MTB Singletrack

****   Add a review
#5 of 51 mountain bike trails in Louisiana
#1,084 in the world

This is a nice singletrack, great for a nice ride. The terrain consist of dirt/sand (Sand is not a problem). Many climbs and descents with some tight squeezes and many switchbacks. Some roots, several small creek bridges, and some log crossings. Great use of the land and nice loop. Well worth trying out.

Getting there
From I-220 take the Lakeshore drive exit and head west towards Cross Lake. About a quarter mile up the road you will see St. Matthias Episcopalian Church on the hill to your left. Go to the church and park on the far left side of the parking lot and follow the tree line to the back of the church and you will see the trail head. The trail head is the first left into the woods. The second is an exit.

Fun for the first few miles then the tight cutback turns just get old.

Had a great time on this trail. Hilly and smooth but with lots of fun roots to pick your lines through. Other riders are very friendly and helpful.

suggest parking/going into the trailhead behind church...some good technical loops...trees get in on your handlebars on your turns so wear your helmets and hit it hard.

As of 08/12/2017 there is a sign stating this trail is closed due to land owner issues. Would have been good to know before I drove all the way here.

I'm a noob, so read this review with that in mind.
The trail is top notch, some really fun downhills with some small jumps and a few pretty tough uphills with pine roots the size of your leg, it's about half uphill and half downhill and they get pretty steep in some spots. Some really cool wooden bridge/walkways dot the path, the trail had a lot of runners and other bikes this morning so stay on your toes and keep the earbuds out. Every now and then you'll hit a patch of deep loose sand that eats up your speed, but 90% of the trail is nice hard packed dirt/gravel. No major muddy spots other than what's still running off from hurricane Harvey.

In my opinion, this trail is a lot harder than the Kincaid loop trail as far as the climbs and I probably would've enjoyed it more with a little more riding time under my belt. I parked at the east boat ramp and took the trail until the end, It's not a loop so after you reach the end you can either go back the way you came or hang a left when you hit the blacktop and stay to the left, it'll bring you right back to your truck.

The trail is definitely open. This trail is a total delight. I travel 200 miles from SE TX and spend the weekend just to ride it. I love it, full of climbs and descents! The trail steward does a great job with the maintenance and is working out any issues with the neighbors.

I have to agree with all the reviews on here with the exception of one thing...the trail markings. its not that its not marked well enough, I think its overly marked...to confusing. maybe its not to the locals who can ride out here often, but as someone like me who only gets to visit this area once a year its too much, and too complex. However, outside of that...one of the best kept and maintained trails I have ridden in the USA! the trail has always been really fun (especially for 27.5/26s), but the improvement that Kevin has put into this trail over the last two years is incredible. great use of the little space its in, and really good flow.

This is a well designed trail that packs ten miles into a small space with many switchbacks. The trail is well maintained and offers shorter loops if you want to take some hikers with you. The loops seem to be designed before the 29er became possible. Very fast and diverse. Note that you enter past the soccer field behind the church. Good fun and worth the trip.

This trail is incredibly fun to ride. There are a few sections that can be a little tight, especially on a 29r. If you have 27.5" or 26" wheels you may enjoy this trail even more. There are a couple of sections which allow you to really get up some speed which makes it so much fun on the 29" wheels. The trail is well maintained and is well organized. It drains well which allows it to dry out quickly after a rain. Keep in mind however that the trail will shut down if its raining and for a day or two after. This is to keep it nice for everyone else and trust me, this trail is spotless compared to many others out there. This trail is similar to the Bodcau trail however it does not have as many roots and is better maintained.

Trail is now 10 miles on the main loop. There is a 4 mile inner loop with the turnoff marked at 3.5 miles. Main loop to creek is 6 miles. Don't have to cross the creek but there is 3.5 miles across the creek. Kevin, the trailmaster.

I'm an SoCal MTN Biker and recently visited the Bossier City/Shreveport area for a two week Christmas vacation and brought my bike with me to try out some trails and I was able to hit Stoner, Bodcau, and a Trail on the base, and this Lakeshore trail was my favorite (Bodcau was good, but it was very wet that day) Great use of the land, great switchbacks, and I loved how it almost feels like it has multiple environments throughout the trail itself. because of how good this one trail is, I will for sure bring my bike on every trip I make back to LA. well maintained, great bridges (and not difficult for bridges).

Primo, generally smooth singletrack. Wind stroking a lot, putting a premium on cornering skill. Pretty of climbing and defending.loved the cool bridge built on a log, if I had stopped to think about that one I'd still be there starting at it.

Being new to mountain biking at 52 years old, this trail is challenging for me. I'm sure I t'll get easier as my endurance improves. The trails are maintained and are in great shape. It's very appealing to the eye and very clean.
