Mountain Biking Syllamo Trails

****   Add a review
#8 of 165 mountain bike trails in Arkansas
#242 in the world

Phase 1 is 22 miles of 3 connecting loops that are mostly excellent single track. Most of the Phase 1 trails are quite technical. The White River Bluff Loop is 4.5 miles. Portions of the trail are quite technical, but the views of the White River and North Sylamore Creek Valley are worth the effort. Bald Sc***py Loop is 7.3 miles beginner to intermediate trails through Ozark Forest. Sc***py Mountain Loop is 12 miles of steep Ozark Mountain terrain. Beginners can ride most, but may need to push up/down steep switchbacks. Phase 2 has recently added another 16 miles of trail.

Rider questions

Q: R there any jumps, hard burms, or downhill?
A: I haven't been in a few years but no, this isn't that type of trail. Sure, there are fast, rocky descents but no built up jumps or berms.

Lots of miles to be had here as well as good variety and some nice scenery. This area is remote and gets little traffic, even on weekends. If you want to rack up a lot of miles all by yourself, you'd be hard pressed to beat this area. Trails are mostly xc oriented, but the scraggy mountain loop has plenty of tech and a couple of the other loops have some tech sprinkled in. The trails seem to drain fairly well too.

Rode Syllamo trail system on 3/6/19. Great trail system. There were a few downed trees and a good amount of leaves on various sections. Otherwise, mixture of fast flowing trails. Much of the trail was along the ridge but we did end up with 4,000 feet of elevation climb over the 30 miles of single track we rode. Fun trail that is a long way from anything.

I rode the white river bluff trial. Didn't run into any down tree but was a few cut away. Thought it was extremely fun and some parts extremely challenging. But the views was amazing and worth the challenge! I'm definitely going back and riding more of the trails. If your passing through it's worth the stop. It is a technical trail so if you like that or want to work on that it's a good place to ride!

I rode the majority of the Jacks Branch Loop from the bottom, and it was super tough going up. I'm thinking that his trail will probably be grown up in a few grassy places in the summer.

Trials are getting in better shape. Still work to be done but the race crews have done a lot. If you need bike service while you are around I am local. I have been a bike mechanic for 10 years in a bike shop. I have all the tools from building bikes and doing brake work to truing wheels. Cell is 870-373-6001 if you need anything.

Beautiful trail! Needs to be ridden more to pack down the leaf drifts!

Great, great trail. Don't be fooled by the other ratings. These trails are TOUGH. Some parts very technical. Bring your climbing legs. Beautiful trail and very worth the drive from about anywhere.

Scratched up peverely from the weeds and thorny bushes overgrowing the trail and I have poison ivy to boot. Seems like it would be a great trail in the winter and spring or if there was some trail maintenance.

Blue trail, scrappy mtn loop still has fallen trees blocking parts of the trail. But as of 11/28/14 mostly clear. Leaves cover the trail leaving some parts hard to navigate. Likewise heavy equipment tracks made parts of the trail hard to follow. But still a great great trail.

Trail work update: The Bad Branch (red) trail was cleaned and cleared by a professional trail crew last week. The Orange And Green trails have also been cleared in the past few weeks. Roughly 75 percent of the blue trail is clear. The yellow has not yet been worked on, and will probably not be 'till after the first of the year. Great things are happening at Syllamo to restore this amazing trail system.

Thanks for the update on the trail status. I haven't been to Syllamo in years and am thinking about going this weekend. Do you know what other loops are clear besides the orange loop? Thanks!

This review is for the Red Trail, Bad Branch. The trail is completely overgrown and unrideable. There is a very large tree across the trail a couple hundred yard in and thorns and thickets completely covering the trails. Unpassable!!

This trail is fantastic! great tech sections and climbs that will challenge the best riders. Great views and lots of amazing limestone features. It did go through a few tough years (2009-2012) of neglect due to rural location and lack of local riding support/ maintenance. That is not the case anymore, Feb. 2014 IMBA and various bike clubs (80 folks) throughout the state got together and have this area in much better shape now. I suggest a visit in late Oct.- May, with Nov-mid Dec. and mid Feb- April prime biking conditions. It is unfortunately a dry county so don't forget to bring beer / whisky.

We rode the red trails on 8/31/13
Completely overgrown with thorn bushes. Some sections we couldn't even see the trails. That trail was horrible. Worst I've ever seen

Great trail system! Much of the tread is littered with small to medium rocks and there are many outcroppings to navigate for a fun, technical challenge. Miles of beautiful singletrack with reasonable climbs and ripping descents.

Rode some of the trails here in April 2011. Amazing! Starting out of the campground is a nice one mile climb to get your blood flowing. The loop that goes out to the scenic overlook is like a rock garden in spots. First time I've ever felt defeated on the bike! But then it was 90 degrees and I came from Michigan, with this being my first ride of the season. One of the other loops was simply a blast. Great flow. Best day I'd ever spent on the bike. Highly recommend these trails.

One of the best IMBA Epic trails I have ever ridden! (12 of them overall). This trail has everything, great views, climbs, rocks and downhills. Rode 3 of the loops for about 30 miles and ran out of gas as it was July and 95 degrees. Can't wait to get back and finish off the other two loops!

Don't go in early August unless you like to have spiders hanging from your visor. Probably best to go near their races because trails will be better groomed also. So many trails in such a rural area must be a challenge for local riders to maintain. Be patient to find trailheads. A park employee helped me find the trailhead. It was not easy to find. Great family restaruant in nearby town, "Fifty Six"--don't miss that. Much more technical than Womble.* Review edited 8/9/2011
