Mountain Biking North Umpqua

*****   Add a review
#9 of 300 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#209 in the world

Beautiful scenic and epic ride along the umpqua river. The trail is broken into several segments of ranging difficulty and terrain. Incredible old growth and fantastic views. Get a map or visit a shop for details about each segment.

I rode this first week in Sept 2019. I rode West through Deer Leap Segment (9miles) into Jesse Wright (4) then to Marster(4). Damn! it was strenous, lots of climbing, lots of fast decents. incredible scenery. giant trees all with the sound of the river below. The Marster segment goes in and out of deep side canyons and so do you. very challenging.

Rough, rugged, remote and steep! I rode six sections down through Mott. Nearly all of the sections are cut into sides of steep canyon walls where you need to not hit your bars on the up side nor slip down the down side, sometimes hundreds of feet down to the river. Dozens of steep, fast downhills to stream crossings, then climbs up from the crossing, rinse and repeat for hours. Beautiful scenery, but it's hard to enjoy it when you are focusing on not falling down the steep slope to the river below. Several climbs require hike-a-bike, and even then it's tough to get foot traction to push the bike up, and the trail is barely wide enough to stand next to your bike. If you're adventurous and a skilled rider, you'll love it!

Living in Southern California I am always looking for rides that have a secluded feel, natural wildlife and shade. This trail hits all of the above! You can ride a scenic route of the river that flows through town or connect into some sketch single track. I heard that the city of Roseburg is planning to revitalize a stretch of the trail that goes by the downtown to include restaurants and breweries! Hope it happens I'll definitely being going back soon.

Living in Southern California I am always looking for trails that are scenic. If you are looking for breath taking views of river, plenty of shade, natural wild life and ability to stay connected to civilization this trail is a great ride!

I hear that the city is talking about bringing restaurants and retail to pay of the tail. Happy hour with a river view sounds great!

Live here in the north umpqua and ride these trails all the time. About 79 miles of trail you can bike on. Ranging from beginner to expert level.

Beautiful singletrack with plenty of flow and plenty of technicality. Lots of exposure to the river. We did the Mott and Panther sections.

This review is for the Mott and Panther Segments of the trail. Mott is rolling with some rocky sections. Fairly fun and very crowded on the weekends. Gorgeous secondary growth! Panther has some climbs. What goes up must come down... and in this case very fast! Watch for blind corners and washouts that will send you into the river! Super fun!
