Mountain Biking Afan Forest Park
#1 of 22 mountain bike trails in Wales
Afan Forest Park is one of Britain's top mountain bike parks. There are many trails and they cater to all abilities from from beginner to expert.
There is a visitor centre, cafe, plenty of pay parking, toilets, bike ship and bike hire. There is also a little museum and walking tracks for the non riders.
The trails are well graded and marked - you won't get lost! You will find all kinds of tail: plenty of sadistic climbs; long demanding descents with rocky steps; fast open and flowing singletrack; contrasting with tight, technical and rooty track - and plenty of awesome views.

From Port Talbort head north for 12 miles on A4107 (Afan Valley Road) and look for the brown tourist signs: "Afan Forest Park". The A4107 is junction 40 off the M4.

There are so many trails in the area, i cant begin to tell you how awsome and raw this area is. The wall is one trail that is part of over 200km of well used trails.Thank |
The locals are amazing and its worth going to Afan Lodge and getting a guide foe a couple of days, worth every penny.
Do the whole lot and turn it into an Epic 30 miler. Lots of energy required for that one!Thank |
Top Trail system expect it to be wet and you can't go wrong!Thank |
Rode Y Wal (The Wall) as part of longer Afan loop (W2 Blade). Y Wal has less rocks than Whites Level with gentler easy climbs and fast flowy descents. More 'blue' than 'red' IMHO and does have a reasonable dose of forest road on the climbs but anything flat to DH is sweet single track that any intermediate rider would loveThank |
Afan offers great high mileage fast flowy trails. Blade trail gives you best of Skyline in 1/2 distance, combine with W2 for a 60km day of great fun. Lots of rocks so use big tyres on solid rims although other than some optional lines and sections on 'Whites trail' and a few bits on 'Blade' nothing is too technical and all the climbs are modest grade. Ongoing improvements and new trail sections. Afan Lodge nearby is great place to stay.Thank |
Afan is epic on all levels. There are enough trails of intermediate to highish level to keep everyone happy.Thank |
One hour technical climb on 'whites levels' gets the blood pumping. Followed by the black run including north shore then a great descent requiring full commitment.(not for the faint hearted).
15 minute fire track climb to windy point, which descends on superb sweeping single track onto rocky drop offs and air friendly jumps. Don't get it wrong there is no where to safely fall here! Don't forget to get in 'energy' the most joyful descent of lumps bumps and sweeping forest descent.
Head onto skyline for the final epic descent, ensuring your suspension is set for maximum travel. You'll need every bit of control through this aggressive rocky welsh pavement of pure addrenalin and joy!
And then theirs the 'wall' .....
