Mountain Biking Pinhoti Trail

*****   Add a review
#1 of 396 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#20 in the world

Epic mountain bike route from Alabama west to the start of the Appalachian trail. All but one section is open to bikes, though currently about 40 miles of the 140 mile route are on paved roads. Tread ranges from fast and mild to technical and wild. Great climbs and connections to other epic north Georgia rides like Fort Mountain and Bear Creek.

The single trail portion of this trail was a lot of fun. The people at Mulberry Gap were great. Helped me out even though they were closed. Would like to go back with a group. Great setting.

When I rode this as part of the Singletracks Brutal Loop, the initial climb hit our little group of four hard. That said, it was after 2,000 feet of climbing up to Mountaintown. Even without the extra climbing, P1's climb will test your meddle. I only rested once near the top and still have no idea how I only stopped once. Maybe it was the group aspect of the ride. Anyways, that climb will be painful.

The descent off the other side is a worthy reward. The fast, flowing trail interrupted by the occasional root web will have you smiling for miles to come. Lay off the brakes, shift back, and get ready to rip.

This trail is Appalachian backcountry singletrack at its finest. Plummeting down from the top of the ridge, steep, rooty trail starts of the ride right by working out those arms, legs, and brake pads. If you're truly flying down this section, it might beat you up a little, as some pretty big repeated hits are fairly regular.

The second phase of the trail is winding, technical singletrack that crosses Mountaintown Creek quite a few times. Although you can try to ride them all, chances are you'll at least put a foot down at some point, so make sure to bring an extra pair of socks.

Rode Mountiantown trail on 3/31/18 as part of Mulberry Gap/Singletracks 32mile brutal loop, which Started with 13 mile gravel road up hill climb to the trailhead (which is also driveable). 13 miles up was rewarded by a great XC downhill trail, including several short creek crossings.

This is my favorite trail in Northern GA. The trails are in great condition, the scenery is top notch and the terrain uses everything in an advanced riders skill set.

Very confused about all the positive reviews. There is a chance I just rode this wrong, but would definitely not put it at the top of any list of best trails in the southeast...or even GA for that matter. Parking at the trailhead, I rode both ways. Both straight up bear creek and dipping off to the right and crossing the stream. Both start with a long climb. Either way was a bit disappointing. If you go straight up bear creek, passing the famous tree, you have a very long accent up singletrack. It's beautiful scenery for sure and was hoping to be rewarded by a killer decent. NOPE! when you get to the top it a very dull ride down an old overgrown service road. I'm not sure why all the positive reviews. If I were to do it again, I would just turn around and ride what I climbed. Definitely many other awesome options in north GA. Now...I did dip off and ride pinhoti 2 and 3. Those were much better with great climbs and decents. For reference, my favorite places to ride are bull/Jake and Chicopee.

Awesome trail. Bring your climbing legs and lungs. Not to worry, you will be rewarded. Don't forget to stop every once in a while to take in the views.

Great add-on to Pinhoti P1 / Bear Creek, especially if you're staying at Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Resort (which I highly recommend). Lots of great downhill flow.

Rode this trail this weekend with my 11 and 14 year olds. Trail was perfect. It was well marked and perfectly groomed. The steepness freaked the boys out a little, but the quality of the trail made it extremely enjoyable for all 3 of us.

Shuttled to the top and bombed down to Bear Creek. Ride as an out and back if you're a glutton for punishment. Shuttle for a great day in the woods!

Tied this up with Pinhoti 3. Beautiful ride, but the climbs were brutal. Nothing technical, just an endurance beat down. Fun ride.

This was a great trail. A lot more climbing than we are used to from our home trail where there is only 50' of elevation change. We are already planning another trip back and staying at the Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-way again.

I only rode a short segment while at Dry Creek. The scenery is great. I will ride more in the future.

just noting that FS 64 is closed 4 miles past Potato Patch, going towards Betty Gap. This means you can NOT drive all the way to Buddy Cove Gap parking lot/Mountaintown Trailhead. But you can drive to the Three Forks lot; there's a new gate immediately after that because a section of road collapsed/closed to vehicles. Might be good to have a bear bell on this ride ... a little beyond where the road collapsed, we inadvertently treed a couple tiny baby bears. We only caught a glimpse of Mama Bear before hightailing it back the way we came.

Loved this trail!!! The downhill was an absolute blast! Of course not knowing the area we parked at the top and did it as an out and back, the back was not so fun!! Great trail!

My new favorite trail in Georgia! It's a long slog to get to the top but the long descent is worth it. The top starts off swoopy and smooth, then transitions into steep and rocky with plenty of stream crossings. Hard to find another descent this long in Georgia. Spring scenery is excellent.
