Mountain Biking Copper Harbor Trails

*****   Add a review
#1 of 313 mountain bike trails in Michigan
#7 in the world

37 miles of trail and we have to describe just one part? Ride the Keweenaw Point Trail out to High Rock Bay. Right now it's a roughly 12 mile trip one-way, and eventually it'll be a 30 mile loop around some of the most remote terrain around. Construction is planned to wrap up in 2020, so check it out next time you're in the neighborhood. It's a beast!

Getting there
Take US-41 as far north as you can go to the tip of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and you will dead end into the quaint little burg of Copper Harbor, Michigan's northernmost town. Stop in to any local business for some prime intel, or go straight to the Keweenaw Adventure Company for the scoop on trail conditions, shuttles, and rentals. The trail ranges from nice flat gravel bike paths down along the lakeside to tight (sometimes very steep) technical singletrack. There is also some seriously technical rock sections which will test even the most seasoned riders but with the wonderful payoff of a truly georgeous lake to dive into at the end of the line! Man, the water is cold! The scenery is truly something special because the surrounding land is basically wilderness so be prepared to see some bear scat and other interesting "wild" sights! Breathing such clean air at this locale is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. From huge views atop Brockway Mountain to the stormy shores of Lake Superior at High Rock Bay, there are so many sights to see you'll have to ride everything to catch it all!

Short but very nice trail that connects you to Bridges and other trails. Nothing too technical, just exposed in places.

Wicked fun! Rides best from intersection 19 side. Don't ride when it's raining or really wet! Too hairy!

I save my 5 stars for truly epic rides (Sedona, Bentonville, etc.), and Copper Harbor is one of them. A great destination for a couple days solid riding - head over to Marquette if you need more. Just be sure you understand this is a pretty remote area - the town is small, but they have the basics covered including a brewery. Trails are awesome - the western side is more flow and engineered, the eastern side is more old school and rough. You can bike the uphills, but there is a limited shuttle available on some days. Be advised the wooden bridges can be slick if wet.

Best trail network in the midwest. Plan to shuttle, either with friends or through Keweenaw Adventure, if you don't like pedaling uphill. the climbs here are redonkulous, but the descents are amazing. I could ride The Flow all day and never get board.

Very fun trail...more "peddly" than I expected but was great nonetheless...do not hesitate to take the short Daisy Dukes downhill section towards the end

These trails are rocky! Normal for the area, but we are not used to it, so the constant jarring got on our nerves. We ride hardtails so that had something to do with it. Great system of trails though. Get a map (for $5) and figure out your plan....then go do it. Garden Brook is fun,. Dancing Bear is beautiful...too many to comment on. If I come back I will bring a different bike (full suspension).

The flow of this trail is off the charts. Whether you're railing a berm, blazing down a slope, or sending a jump, no part of this trail will disappoint.

Don't listen to that reviewer below me, there are plenty of modest singletracks to ride up Brockway Mtn or the Keewenaw Mtn lodge, and you can ride the road as well. I personally preferred singletracks going up though, they weren't too hard.... maybe he just sucked at climbing. Anyways, the downhill trails here are amazing. There are a bunch of different downhill trails with something for everyone. Everything from beginner to advanced jumps, rocks, roots, drops, etc. Also the new Phase 1 and Phase 2 trails are phenomenal, can't wait for Phase 3! If you're a serious mountain biker, you must rider here asap, cause you're in for a treat.

This trail system shouldn't even be considered for Singletracks, first off the park is maintained by the same people who work at the shuttle(small community) that being said, the trails are designed so that you will pay for and use the shuttle. What I mean is there is no easy way to the 2nd half of the park. There are 2 high points at the park and both are drop off spots by the shuttle. The only feasible way to access them by going uphill is by going up a black diamond route that is 70% wooden bridges which sketches a lot of people out and it is pretty steep. If wet they are unusable. This route will take you up to the cabin at the first peak, but the second half of the park means taking another chain of trails and going up the another black diamond that has the crazy wooden bridge section that is posted in so many photos. that trail is pretty much exclusively downhill. There may be another trail to get around but it is quite a round about way to get there adding 2 miles to the route. To put it in a nutshell this is a downhill park with a shuttle servicing it. That being said for a downhill park, it is pretty fun and has some fun trails for intermediate riders and up. It is quite out of the way to get to this park and really has about a days worth riding in it, so if your looking to make a big excursion out of it, it might be a waste of your time. The area is super cool temps, when it was 90 degrees in Madison it was 65 and sunny(thanks to the lake), it is also very rainy and has a lot of mosquitos which is normal for anything around the big lakes. Also the town doesn't have a bike shop, the next one is 30 minutes out, so you can get some basic repairs done at the shuttle service shop but don't expect there to be a big supply or a place to fix serious repairs. Overall 3/5 it's NOT A SINGLETRACK but an excellent downhill course for the midwest.

Best trail in michigan! Had a blast on every trail. Lots of technical climbs and descends. Definitely would recommend taking a lift from the local bike shop to the top of the mountain to ride the FLOW! It's about 3 miles of downhill with awesome flow and a nice jump section!

Very fun trail system with lots of amazing single track and great downhill for michigan from technical to jumpy and flowy. Awesome fun loose rock and roots if your looking for them.

Best place in the midwest to ride! Every trail is a blast. DIrt doesn't get too muddy when it's wet, doesn't close due to rain. Camping nearby makes it a good spot fora bike trip. So much gnar!
